2010s

A list of the Goalhanger's favourite footballers from the 2010's.

The 2010's saw the Goalhanger's kids go football-stats crazy. And the blame lay firmly at the feet of the EA Sports FIFA games.

Yes, the popularity of this particular video game meant that it suddenly became a regular occurrence for veteran followers of continental football to be left baffled by their six year old child's new-found expertise on the stats surrounding a whole host of previously unheard of footballers.

Couple this with the never-ending stream of videos celebrating the outrageous skills and goals of footballers across the globe, all doing the rounds on the likes of Twitter, Instagram and YouTube and there seemed to be more skillful players than you could keep track of.

So here's a list of our favourites from the 2010's, including the club(s) they were playing at when we really liked them...

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Algeria

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Riyad Mahrez Leicester City Some outrageous skills on the wing, and some fantastic goals for Leicester City as they lived the dream and won the Premiership title in 2015-16.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Colombia

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Carlos Bacca Club Brugge, Sevilla, AC Milan Cool name. Cool player. Bacca's goal-scoring record at Club Brugge, Sevilla and then AC Milan was fantastic, averaging a goal every other game by 2016.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from England

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Jamie Vardy Leicester City Vardy's incredible goal-scoring run in the 2015-16 season broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record of consecutive Premier League games (11 games in a row) and helped the Foxes to that incredible title win. And, of course, there was the fairytale story behind Vardy's rise from non-league football to Premiership glory.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from France

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Ousmane Dembélé Rennes, Borussia Dortmund We saw him star a few times for Rennes before his big money move to Dortmund in the summer of 2016. A skillful forward with tricks aplenty, he looks set to be another massive hit for BVB's superb recruitment policy.
Kylian Mbappé Monaco Likened by many to Thierry Henry, the Goalhanger loved watching Mbappé banging the goals in for ASMonaco in the 2017-17 season, especially in the Champions League.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Gabon

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund Lightening-fast forward who can play up top or out wide, Aubameyang was eye-catching at Saint-Étienne but unbelievable at Borussia Dortmund.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Italy

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Andrea Belotti Torino Passionate, all-action striker who banged in goals galore at Toro.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Poland

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Kamil Glik Torino, Monaco A classic strong, whole-hearted, central defender. Scorer of a superb volley for Monaco against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in September 2016.
Kamil Grosicki Rennes, Hull City Pacey, tricky winger who impressed at Rennes and then at the Euro 2016 tournament before turning up at Hull City in January 2017 and putting in some fantastic performances on their left wing.
Robert Lewandowski Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich Top notch striker, a proper finisher. Whilst his scoring rate was impressive at Dortmund between 2010 and 2014, it was phenomenal at the Allianz Arena after his move to Bayern Munich.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Portugal

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Bernardo Silva Monaco Right-sided playmaker. Fantastic in Monaco's great Champions League run in 2016-17. Full of sublime little touches, defence splitting passes, twists and turns, he played on the right side but was often given licence to roam inside as a playmaker, usually in and around Mbappe. Unfortunately he had to miss Euro 2016, which is a shame as he'd have provided much needed creativity to a dull Portugal side, even if they did end up winning the thing.

Favourite Footballers of the 2010's from Spain

Player Favourite Club(s) in the 2010s Why ?
Dani Carvajal Real Madrid Having not been classed as a particularly attack minded defender earlier in his career, it was something of a surprise that by the 2016-17 season Carvajal was regularly rampaging up and down Real's right flank with no little skill.
