European Championships Top Scorers

There have been some great forwards who've topped the goal scoring charts at the European Championships over the years, with the likes of Gerd Müller, Marco van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp, Alan Shearer and David Villa all delivering when it mattered at previous tournaments.

However, it's the incredible goal-scoring achievement of a midfielder that stands head and shoulders above the rest. Not just any midfielder though, but le Roi himself, Michel Platini, and his ridiculous record of nine goals at Euro 1984, as he inspired that fantastic French team to lift the trophy on home soil.

Yes, nine goals in just five matches, including two hat-tricks in the group stages (one a perfect hat-trick) as well as vital goals in the semi and the final itself. Not bad for a central midfielder.

So here's Platini and the rest of the tournament top-scorers...
